My Previous Builds

I’ve been modding various Nintendo Game Boy handhelds (mainly Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, and Game Boy Advance SP consoles) for a couple of years now. Of course, there are at least five consoles I haven’t “finished” because they weren’t up to my standards. I plan to tweak them as soon as my workspace is ready to use again.

Here are some of the finished consoles (forgive the lackluster backgrounds; I had just moved and hadn’t set up my photography box yet).

The first picture is of my GBA SP Slab Remix build; it took hours and multiple iterations to finish. I had to have the shell reprinted when it wouldn’t stay together because the screws couldn’t be tightened enough. I had to redo the wiring as well, because the wire I used was too thick. In the end, I had to (carefully) use enameled copper wire. If you know, you know. I also had to insert metal pegs through the shoulder button tabs inside the case, as the stupid things wouldn’t stay in. Overall, I’m really happy with how this came out.

I didn’t include any of the original GBAs mods I’ve done, as they looked weird due to the protective cling plastic on the screen. I didn’t want the screens getting scratched while I stored them before I mailed them out. Nothing worse than a scratched screen on your console. But it made for not-so-pretty photos. From now on, I’ll pre-install the screen protector before I take photos.
